By providing one on one tutoring, this program accelerates the literacy development of urban middle school children. Participating teens also gain literacy instruction techniques.

The weekly enrichment, reading, and tutorial program for youth ages 9 to 13 is a joint effort of Third and Long and the local Kansas City area school systems. Certified instructors as well as community volunteers are teamed with small groups of students to provide motivational and supportive instruction promoting literacy.

The students are rewarded with Chiefs’ tickets and a tailgate party, as well as other incentives. Through community support, the Foundation’s participants enjoy many educational field trips throughout the year.
